Elden Ring Strategy Guide
Elden Ring is a masterpiece, but it is also a brutal test of patience and skill. The Lands Between are unforgiving. If you are struggling to progress, or if Malenia has killed you for the 50th time, don't despair. Here is a strategic breakdown to help you become the Elden Lord.
Explore, Don't Grind
If a boss is too hard, leave. This is the beauty of the open world. Go south to the Weeping Peninsula, explore caves, find upgrades. You will naturally gain levels and find better gear. Banging your head against a wall is the wrong way to play. There is always somewhere else to go.
Vigor is the Most Important Stat
Damage stats (Strength, Dex, Int) are cool, but Vigor keeps you alive. In the late game, bosses hit like trucks. If you have less than 40 Vigor, you will get one-shot. Prioritize getting your Vigor to 40 before worrying about maximizing your damage output. You can't do DPS if you are dead.
Spirit Ashes are Not Cheating
Ignore the elitists. The game was designed with Spirit Ashes in mind. Bosses like the Godskin Duo are unfair solo. Using the Mimic Tear or Black Knife Tiche to draw aggro is a strategic choice. It turns the fight into a tag-team match and gives you windows to heal or charge heavy attacks. Use every tool the game gives you.
Status Effects are Broken
Bleed (Hemorrhage) and Frostbite are incredibly powerful. They deal percentage-based damage, meaning they remain effective even against bosses with massive health pools. Weapons like Rivers of Blood or the Moonveil Katana are popular for a reason. Don't be afraid to respec your character at Renbala to try a new build if yours isn't working.
Malenia: The Blade of Miquella
For the hardest fight in the game, you need to learn to dodge "Waterfowl Dance." When she jumps into the air, run away for the first two flurries, then dodge into her for the third. Frost pots can also knock her out of the animation if you are quick enough. Patience is key; only attack when she is recovering.
